PET 64 & Messiah?

Hi.

Will Messiah run on a PET 64? I know that it has a SID chip in it, but the ROM is different than standard C64s. Do you think it'll work? I know... it has a monochrome screen, but I think it might be usable.

Re: PET 64 & Messiah?

I've never used one of those, but according to that article the pet 64 IS a commodore 64 just in a different case and uses a monochrome monitor. It does seem that the way the computer handles color is also changed on the ROM, but I am fairly certain if you were to replace the rom on it with a c64-rom it would boot up like one of ours if you wanted to enable color I guess. (of course you would need to replace the monitor with a color one if you are daring enough to open up the case on it. now, if you had an Educator 64... that has the same rom as our c64s

MSSIAH won't work though, due to the location of the cartridge port. well, you wouldn't be able to get a MIDI cable in there at least.

EDIT: based on this interior pic, some (all?) PET 64's don't even have a SID chip in them!

Re: PET 64 & Messiah?

That's good to know. Kinda sucks about the midi port though.

There's actually an Educator 64 on eBay right now. He sold one last week for less than the BuyItNow on this one. The sold one also looked as though it might have been in slightly better condition. I'm waiting to hear back if he has any more.

I don't have a Prophet64 but have Messiah on the way. I guess I should just hold off for now. I've wanted an Educator 64 for some time now... don't really exactly know why. smile

Re: PET 64 & Messiah?

couldnt there be some sort of case mod to make the mssiah cart fit? I am sure a dremel tool could cut away into the case a bit.

are you kidding? fuck that. smile

a cart port expander might work though, or a custom ribbon cable extension.

Or hack away at the MSSIAH cartridge case? I don't suppose anyone's opened one up yet though!

Re: PET 64 & Messiah?

I'm sure someone could desolder the midi port on a Mssiah and then wire a female midi cable comming out of the top.
