I Need Help Finding Feesable MIDI to Sync 24 converters

I Need Help Finding Feesable MIDI to Sync 24 converters...

Any ideas on manufacturers? I know doepfer has some but I'm not sure if i want to up 80 Euros/107USD right now. (I'm Not looking for any DIY jobs, allthough i think it may resort to it.)

Thanks, Spas out...

Re: I Need Help Finding Feesable MIDI to Sync 24 converters

if all you are doing is syncing, there is a midi interface, that works for sync only.

It's a single solution, one piece.

Re: I Need Help Finding Feesable MIDI to Sync 24 converters

no, what i am saying is....
what are some inexpensive DIN sync 24 to MIDI converters which are premade... (i know they exist in our realm somewhere)

premade = ones i don't make becaue i'm lazy and want to exaust all other options first

wait better yet i'm gonna change this thread...
has anyone actually used doepfers MSY2 in conjunction with P64? I would like to know the results if anyone has done so. (As in, latency and quality of original data stream as opposed to playback.) thanks!

Re: I Need Help Finding Feesable MIDI to Sync 24 converters

so you already have a Sync24 interface for your commodore?

All i knwo is my philip rees midi to sync 24 converter works.. but they don't make them anymore.. sync 24 isn't really so necessary with direct midi peripherals either available now or on their way soon.

Re: I Need Help Finding Feesable MIDI to Sync 24 converters

No I don't have a sync24 interface, I wish I did! That's what I'm trying to figure out, what other options I have besides making my own converter. And I haven't seen any other options besides the now defunct dtronics device, is there something else you know of? Oh man I wish I had one of those philip rees converters, they seemed really cool. So do you have any trouble with your converter when it comes to playback? any glitches in conversion? I hope not!

Re: I Need Help Finding Feesable MIDI to Sync 24 converters

hello, im using a Dtronics MS-06  (www.dtronics.net) which is also build by django.....
this converter works very fine for me, there will be a 2nd version of it - my version is sold out, i think.
there is also sync2midi, so you can use your c64 as master and mid2sync with THREE sync out (or two syncout + midithrue)
i think msy2 is also great, but more expensive and less funktions than ms-06....
buy a ms-06v2 !!! never had any problems with v1, its in sync up to 500bpm hehehe
so, this was enough promotion.
cheers

just saw this today http://www.dtronics.net/html/midi_to_sync_ms-06.html . it says it is available to buy but doesn't show up on http://www.engineersatwork.nl/ . this seems like a fairly cheap option!

Actually, the manual for the Free Trial versions suggests the following devices:

Doepfer MSY2
Kenton (various CV-converters)
Korg KMS-30
Novation Basstation, Drumstation (apparently only one of them has sync24 out)
Nulogic MTS
Philip Rees MDS
Roland TR-707/727

Hope that helps!

Re: I Need Help Finding Feesable MIDI to Sync 24 converters

the TR-707/727 will not convert sync to midi. it has to be the master clock and send to both.

the Roland MSQ-100 is a great converter, but you have to record and loop a blank sequence (wish i held onto this). The MSQ-700 works too, but it's overkill for this purpose. the SBX-10 was the dedicated midi-din sync unit of the time, but it's as big as the 700.

the Novation DrumStation is the one with din-sync conversion (i think i'll buy one myself, always wanted one).

Jbuoancc, you're right about the 707/727.

Personally I've used both KMS-30s and Kenton converters and they did an excellent job. He doesn't need a full drumstation for that. Unless it's a bargain, that way you'll get a drum machine and a sync converter at the same time.. smile

ahh, right. i just meant between it and the BassStation (the confusion above)...

the Kenton, Philip Rees, etc all look great.

To  my personal experience the DrumStation's sync is way too untight.

Isnt that better than relying on the C64 to be the master clock anyways? I mean, I'd figure the C64 to have lag issues...

Re: I Need Help Finding Feesable MIDI to Sync 24 converters

ahh, sorry to hear about the D-Station. sad hadn't heard that before.

SlaserX - yes, i'd think it'd be better than the C64's clock. from what i can remember though, it's hard to dial in a specific bpm sometimes because the values jump. might not be an issue for some (especially compared to p64's basic bpms). the 707 may have the same sync problems as the 606/202/etc as well. (?)
