Apparently there is no way telling on which step you are on when you are inputting the notes?
Not even a single little number anywhere on the goddamn screen...
So, anyone has some special überleet cyborgninja technique to make it a little bit easier not to get lost in the 16step jungle?

Try page 15 of the monosynth manual. I'm not too familiar with monosynth (I'm quite addicted to sequencer), but if you really get lost in pitch mode, pressing F1 will always set you back to the first note in the sequence and you can navigate the pattern non-destructively with RETURN and INST/DEL.

i tend to write stuff in some "normal" kind of sequencer. then the patterns can be easily and quickly translated to the prophet language the manual is very clear about this. first you enter notes in pitch mode and then you enter the time values. you simply count them. I can do this fast n furious, you can do this too. tooks me about 3 minutes to fill a 16pattern patch.
I don't edit patterns, too much of a hassle. I simply overwrite them.

If you get lost in the 303 style sequencer then just go to the pattern editor of A.R.C. (press <CTRL> and go to A.R.C./EDIT) where you see a matrix style piano bar grid. That one is quite clearly layed out...
