I recently just bought this SD2IEC device http://www.sd2iec.co.uk/id14.html and am having problems using it with Mssiah.....Anyone use this device? .....I have tried formatting the SD card to FAT & FAT32 per the instructions...I have also tried formatting it using the Mssiah disk file manager, but I get a "SYNTAX ERROR" ....It appears to save a file properly, but then when I try to open files it says "No Files"....When I go to the directory, I don't see the names of the files that I saved, I just see for example the number 11 for each file I saved......Any suggestions? ...Did I waste my money

Well in my research of getting C64 for working with SD cards, I have tried a few things and ran into problems from the start.
There are two perspectives:
1. Finding the right device, I tried both SD2IEC and The 1541-III
I concluded that 1541-III sucks with Mssiah because the unit can load-up things but cannot write to the sd cards. While SD2IEC can both load and write to sd cards, so you did the right choice by choosing SD2IEC from start.
2. Finding the right SD card:
I tried many SD cards before I found a compatible one, there are some perspectives which you have to think about before it will work.
• The card format needs to be Fat16
Idea:
Try with another SD card (not Micro sd), example 1 sd card under 2 GB. I use one that has 256 mb, that is enough because the unit itself was never made to handle such size. You can lent the SD card from other units example the digital camera, the phone or other devices.

Thank you soooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo much for the tips!...Questions:
-Can you tell me what model card you have so I can try and buy the same one..
-Once I get the right card and format it to FAT 16, are there any other steps I need to do?
-Do I need to put anything on the root level of the SD card, or is a freshly formatted card all I need?
-What program or OS did you use to format the card to FAT 16?

No problem:
- You have to use a normal SD card (not micro, ultra, HC, mini) Normal SD cards costs peanuts because no one wants them and people want more and more space
- There are no other steps, when you have format the unit to FAT16
- A freshly formatted works
- I used Windows 7 to format my sd cards -> right click on the sd card > Format > Choose format 16
However, you have to be aware; some SD cards are cover with the name SD card but are not SD card.
• Tryout some different SD cards

So, I've now bought & tried 3 different 256 MB SD cards, and no luck still.... It would be awesomE if you could take a piC and/or let me know the model #'s of the one's you are able to successfully use.

this is weird as i have an sd2iec which is what your device is built from. i have had no issues saving in the sequencer but have just started using MONOSYNTH and it lets me import/export patterns and patches but will not let me save projects. It goes through the motions as if it is saving the project but then when you go to open, the dreaded "NO FILES" is shown.
is it weirdly just not compatible with monosynth save project feature? seems weird it can export patterns to the same device if so.... any help from people would be appreciated. nomaintopic and luck?

well i only just realised i could update the firmware on my sd2iec. now running the latest firmware and still i have this damn problem!
how are people getting round this? what units are people using to save on the c64 with mssiah?

Same issues here with Mono Synthesizer. Can export / import patches and patterns but can't save. Just saves as nameless file that can't be loaded later. Hmmm, I wound what the fix is? Btw, I'm using Jiffy Dos and uIEC/SD.

okay it is a few month since the last post, but I think I post my experience. I use SD2iEC evo2 and all runs perfect with loading and saving to SD Card.. the only thing you have to do is to mount a D64 image first into the device. You can do this by creating a "image list" and select a D64 image with the disk swap buttons .. when a image is mounted to SD2IEC it is no problem with saving all the files created by mssiah.. monosynth, sequencer, whatever you like... hope that helps you guys! Greetings.. Anthony

Hi there!
Another SD2IEC & MSSIAH user here with a C64C. I have the C64c plastic Cased SD2IEC v3.1 with a pre-formatted SDHC card and yes, I have some of the same problem(s) in file saving/access as people in this thread have mentioned.
I'll try Anthony W.'s suggestion as mentioned above, that might be the answer.
If there's any other anomalies with SD2IEC load/save access, please keep this thread updated. Thanks a lot! Keep 'em SID chips chirping
