Analog joystick project?

Hi everyone...

Looking at all the awesome mods and adapters people are making, I started thinking about what would be really cool... And after finding some 10kOhm dual pot joystick assemblies when looking for pots, I thought of the following:

An analog joystick, which can be switched to paddle mode, where it would emulate two paddles on the two axes, with a "hold" button for each axis that would freeze the output at that point, or to mouse mode, where it would work exactly like a 1351.
I guess it would be doable with a microcontroller... Since it's software, we can even program the buttons to work as hold buttons in paddle mode, and mouse buttons in mouse mode.

Do you guys think it would be useful? No more need to lug a mouse and pots around, just two of these bloody things. smile And it would feel like those awesome XY joysticks that were popular on 1980s synths.
