C64R 808 edition & GOLD edition.

Hey there

I finished a couple of new devices.

This one:

http://i26.tinypic.com/14rxbp.jpghttp://i32.tinypic.com/6dv502.jpg
http://i32.tinypic.com/212e7wi.jpghttp://i31.tinypic.com/25pojzq.jpg

Was basically as I cut down a C64C case and it was too small to house the SID2SID. So it has a solo 8580R5. But it has 808 knobs on it. And it is waaay slimline.

This one:

http://i27.tinypic.com/2i1342q.jpghttp://i32.tinypic.com/zwjn81.jpg
http://i28.tinypic.com/343s0e8.jpghttp://i32.tinypic.com/e61y4l.jpg
http://i25.tinypic.com/1zqy914.jpghttp://i28.tinypic.com/ic7apu.jpg

Is the Gold edition. Obviously it is NOT a butchered original gold edition. Has a reset switch in the side also. Double 6581. The PCB even has gold tracking. It looks gold anyway.

I'll be taking some proper pics of these this weekend, fixing a key on the 808 model, then probably putting on ebay.

Re: C64R 808 edition & GOLD edition.

black always appeal to me.. great looking, nice and big enough knobs.
rainbow sticker looks incredible underneath.
great machine!

edit: one question though.... ergonomics!
how handy is it to tweak these stiff looking but same time pretty large knobs?..  i guess it's a matter of taste.

Re: C64R 808 edition & GOLD edition.

I have to admit I do generally go for form over function. That's not to say that they controls are in any way more awkward.

You probably guessed that the rainbow sticker is 1 and a half breadbin badges cut up.

The question I have is did you get those knobs from Chipsforbrains, or somewhere else?? I need to get some myself for my MB808 soon...

thought so!
another option is to print it on heavy, maybe even glossy paper, then spray some decent quantity of clear acrylic finish, etc etc, but why improvise if you can have it genuine cool
yep, have to agree the knobs are very sturdy, uncover big_smile your source!

hehe wink c64 Gold is a GoldStar typeface revival, although not exact copy but have some similarities, like twin brothers:

Re: C64R 808 edition & GOLD edition.

within gold edition,

nice labeling color scheme, almost chromatic, matches the idea of gold.
a question... why would you paint only upper half of the keys, leaving graphical screenprint on others.

transparent knobs are immense with solid colors, my guess. black/whites pop my eyes cool

Not sure what you mean mate...

You mean like only on the top surface and not on the side? Path of least resistance really. Painting the sides is a pain...

Re: C64R 808 edition & GOLD edition.

i think i should explain myself more clearly: c64 has 5 rows of buttons, incl. a space below. upper (1)  is numbers, lower (5) is space. i see you painted numbers according to musical scale, and ........ AHH now i gotcha.
you painted musical scale buttons.

Re: C64R 808 edition & GOLD edition.

Nice guitar knobs on the second one. Your top pot knob setup makes the c64 look upside down and normal at the same time.
