It's not like people didn't use commodores for live shows before the newskool software carts were born.
My MPC takes much more time loading sample data than the C64 booting the old (free) edition of the monosynth from disk. Also there're rumors about people using laptops for live, too - how much slowdown is booting Windows or OSX and launching evilton live??

My 2 cents in general... Cracking expensive software from large corporations is one thing, they still make big bucks. This however, is just a vicious attack on another one's hard labor..
At lousy 30 euros, 8bv nearly gave this software away. Obviously they must be devoted in doing so for other reasons than making money. Why would anyone want to ruin that?? Don't we all want the c64 to live on forever??

On the other hand, p64 is an obsolete product..It will be of less interest when the Mssiah is out..
That is, if they still want to release it...

*20 seconds loading time to edit instruments (and then you can't play the sound via the keyboard - I kid you not)!
*20 seconds loading time to edit a sequence!

If you have access to Jiffydos it loads faster.

*1351 emulation in VICE sucks ass for this as it's only designed for port 1, so the mouse buttons don't work properly in sequencer

Yeah, it sucks. There is even missing the PSID converter.

To me this crack is only a average Demo version.

Yeah, this was pretty useful to me since I can now run the bassline, drum machine and monosynth programs directly from my MMC64

That is definitely NOT the general consensus in the scene. I've shown people the software at couple of parties and everybody who tried and watched had fun and thought it was good... Not as a scene tool, of course, but generally they all appreciated the software for what it actually is and tries to do. Then we started talking about rastertime (of course ) and that the play routine in the sequencer is bloated etc but there was no misunderstanding of the purpose of the software, and no 'sux' or the likes. You can't make assumptions about the whole scene based on the opinion of just a couple of crackers.

I don't see anything ethically wrong with this crack, since P64 is discontinued anyway. The worst thing that could happened is that eBay auction prices are brought down to reasonable levels again

It's still a discontinued and outdated piece of software. The amount of blood, tears and sweat won't change if I download it since the author isn't losing any money because of it.

Updated, as you said. Not just a little either, with full MIDI support straight out of the box. I doubt that the crack will have any negative effect on sales of MSSIAH... Quite oppositely I believe that it will bring positive attention to it, even if it is buggy (generally, people who know where to look for the crack also understand that it's buggy). Even if people have old versions of the software, the MIDI interface is a unique selling point. No matter the outcome I'm sure that MSSIAH will be sold as long as it is produced and empty the stock once production is stopped. No harm done.

However, we must agree that both our theories of how this will affect MSSIAH sales are equally speculative.
