Re: 1541 Ultimate: A working solution to LOAD and SAVE with Prophet64

Ok guys,

so here is the result for the Datasette Power cable...

Working great ! Realy easy to do !

Use this for pinout shematics:
http://stuffprojects.free.fr/pictures_links/C64/1541U/mini_Pinout.JPG

And for mini USB : http://pinouts.ws/usb-pinout.html
http://stuffprojects.free.fr/pictures_links/C64/1541U/mini_D7_PC_Test.JPG http://stuffprojects.free.fr/pictures_links/C64/1541U/mini_Pinout_Detail.JPG

Black USB --> Black Datassette
Red USB --> Green Datassette
http://stuffprojects.free.fr/pictures_links/C64/1541U/mini_D7_PowerCable.JPG

And don't forget, don't throw the box and components, it can still be used!
(what about use de datasette box for 1541-U case ?)

just a thought but why not have 2 LEDs for numbers and just assign a number to each of the disk images. so you could navigate to the file you need and mount it. ie "01" is first file "21" is the twenty-second file... etc So that way you could have a printed out list with numbers and the the files your stored and you look at that and set your Ultimate on the correct number. Who needs a gui when you got analogue! big_smile Hell it could even be added on to this thing after market... have a small IC wired to the buttons and it counts up or down depending on the button pressed and then Blinks the numbers twice when mounting and blinks "--" twice when un-mounting. I'd pay an extra $15 if had a feature like that.

It is really a great idea Cybertronic ! You should expose it on the 1541-Ultimate forum? There is a topic "What do people like to see" And I know that Gideon seeks to improve the way for Stand Alone use. wink

yep, i did this same thing for the 1541-III power cable. works great, but seems certain motherboard revisions don't distribute enough power to the cassette port (won't even power a Datasette in some cases).

Re: 1541 Ultimate: A working solution to LOAD and SAVE with Prophet64

I ordered a 1541u over a week ago, not even had a confirmation order e-mail!   The ordering system seems pretty much to be case-by-case manual order.  (Surely it's not hard to set up a single product paypal cart?)

So anyway, I've just e-mailed the guy to find out what is going on.  sad

(also, ordered a Competition Pro joystick from Germany big_smile)

All sorted.  Gideon has helped me get the order put through, I guess I'll just have to wait for it to arrive now!  big_smile

Did I read somewhere that this doesn't come with cables sad

Re: 1541 Ultimate: A working solution to LOAD and SAVE with Prophet64

Hi RebornOnline,

I have ordered two card in the past (one is on holiday at Loriano home for prototype of an enclosure ;-) )
They are both arrived quickly and in good condition (well packed).
Gideon is a really serious person, (thank to him one more time).

Do you will use it exclusively with mssiah ? because firestARTer SD interface is coming soon ! (maybe).
(Cheaper and more friendly useful for p64/mssiah)

No cable, just a Quick Reference Guide. :-)

I'll be using it with MSSIAH, but also for playing some old C64 games, otherwise I'd have gone for the a C64TPC for a fraction of the price!

In that case, you made the right decision & it's worth the extra cash.  It's loading speed for games is super quick! big_smile

Jaicen said he'd modify my 1351 mice and now he won't return them or even answer my emails.  True story...  sad

Re: 1541 Ultimate: A working solution to LOAD and SAVE with Prophet64

Well I had everything I needed except an SD reader, so i couldn't dump any D64 images to the cart.  Ah well!  I'll pick one up from Asda on the way home tonight wink

Mad way to get it work: big_smile

Put your Ultimate SD card in your Digital Camera
Plug your Camera to your PC...
Transfer your .d64 to your Camera.
Plug Out your SD card,

Plug it in your 1541 Ultimate C64 Drive !  cool big_smile

Re: 1541 Ultimate: A working solution to LOAD and SAVE with Prophet64

HEHE, yeah, I thought of that but my camera uses CF cards.  My phone uses MicroSD and my old phone uses Memory Stick Duo and my even older phone uses MMC.   My PS3 is a later model which hasn't got media card slots.  The only thing which takes SD cards is my Wii, but there's no way to use it for moving files.

I think a SD reader from Asda will be <15 so that's fine smile

Re: 1541 Ultimate: A working solution to LOAD and SAVE with Prophet64

I ended up going to Tesco - picked up their own brand card reader for <10 !

They also had a kit for 14 which included a 1GB SD card, USB SD reader and a 2.5" screen protector, which was tempting too!
