<vent> I've got my prophet cart sitting in the broken 64 I got off ebay and I think I'm gonna cry. the 1351 mouse is plugged in and looking sad. i swear every person selling a 64 on ebay has the "this worked when I last used it 69 years ago" line in their auction. commodore #2 is in the mail and if it doesn't work I'm going to explode!!! i'm jonesin' to use this cart and running the demos in vice isn't cutting it anymore!! </vent>

in the united states of america, in MOST states, the words "Sold As Is" means "This currently works, but it is not in mint condition" by LAW.
If someone sells something "As Is" without specifically stating "this is broken" or "for parts" then it has to work on arrival... i'm not sure what ebay's rules do to those laws..
maybe get your dollars back?
Were they good dollars?

The light turns on but I get no video signal, just a blank screen. when I first got the 64 I thought I might have been using the wrong converter with the antenna switchbox. I got a din-to-rca cable but still had the same results- blank screen.
The seller said they were cutting me a check but I have yet to see it...
Thanks so much for your help everyone!!!

as is adj. description of a condition in a sales contract in which the buyer agrees to take the property (e.g. house, horse, auto, or appliance) without the right to complain if it is faulty.
However, the buyer must have had the right to reasonable inspection, so that he/she has a chance to find any obvious deficiency.
I suppose since one is incapable of reasonable inspection over the internet, a refund is in order once one has inspected a device that has not been explicitly described as 'not working.'
At least thats what I'm going to say if this 2nd Commodore I've ordered doesn't work!

Hate to be a drag but someone (hint:admin) ought to move this thread to the "off topic"-section....

What is that taken from? A law? or dictionary.com?

If the light turns on and you get no video signal, a number of problems might be it. First and foremost, because its socketed, take out the sid. a bad sid = no picture.
if you have a 1541 drive, turn it on. connect it. Turn on the c64 (in that order). Does the red light go on the 1541? If so, type "load "$",8"
and hit enter
even though you cant' SEE what you are typing, you might see the red light on the 1541 , as it searches for a disk. If you do, you know that the CIA chips work, that the VIC chip works, and that most likely, its the SID chip (if not a bad video cable). So there you go. That's a great diagnostic trick.
Try it.

I got my second 64 which came with no power supply, plugged it in with the same power supply from my other c64 and am still experiencing the same problem: light comes on but no video. I'm thinking it's the power supply. Or rather, I'm hoping it's the power supply because I just ordered one on ebay.
My power supply has a 4-pin din plug on the end that goes into the 64. but the socket is for a 7-pin. I have heard that this is normal but am not sure. Humph.
I WANT TO START SEQUENCING!!!
In the mean time I have been sampling my sidstation and importing the samples into reason. it's just not the same. :...(

I've got the big black one currently. I just ordered another big black one because I wasn't sure if the other varieties would work... I AM SO ANXIOUS TO PLAY WITH THE PROPHET.
I can't wait to start kicking out jams and sharing them. Everyone has been really awesome here, thanks so much!!!

CRAP. I now have 2 power supplies, 1 din-to-rca a/v converter cable, one antenna switchbox, one 300 ohm to 75 ohm converter box, and 2 BROKEN C64'S. I've tried every configuration of all aforementioned items with multiple televisions to no avail. I want to order another box on ebay but I swear if I get it and it doesn't work I'm going nuclear. Using Prophet64 has proven to be one of the most elusive pursuits in my entire musical life. I WANT TO SCREAM!!!!

Where do you live? Can you craigslist a c64 in your area? Its more likely to work.. and you can test it before you buy it usually.
at some weirdo's house.

I'm in Las Vegas NV... Unfortunately I've been searching Craig's List with no results... I've found an auction on ebay where the seller has posted images of the 64 plugged into a television and working, so I'm thinking I'll drop the cash and get it. Odds are it will work.
Thankfully I have been playing with my sidstation a lot lately. I'm playing it through a Korg RK-100 keytar midi controller and it is FUN. I LOVE THE SID CHIP.
