hello all,
Is it, or is it not possible to save to tape in Bassline?
I have tried and when I load it up I just get a 'Wrong Filetype' message???
is it my datasette ? or just a problem with the soft ware ??
thanks

It's funny people question the software when their gear is over 25 years old..."Gee..which one is faulty, this brand new software or this old 80s electronics?? Must be the software!! "
Seriously, you've got yourself a classic tape alignment problem.
You need to find a program that graphically displays the tape signal and then use a small screwdriver to adjust the tape header accordingly.
Try googling azimuth tape alignment c64 etc etc... and see if you can find any. I'll look through my disks and see if I still have a copy somewhere...
Heh. Yes that's true Mike. I thought It was the software because :
a - I got a 'wrong file type' error (rather than an unreadable file), which I thought meant the software had saved the file with the wrong extension...
b - I had seen posts on here about the tape save being disabled.... I now assume they were talking about the demo version..
c - It was 4 am when I wrote that post, I had been up for hours creating a bassline sequence ( I just got the cart yesterday!!).
hahaha, anyways.... So it is possible to save to tape. of course it is!
Think I have nother datasette round here somewhere.
Thanks for the Azimuth tip too!

Sorted!!
I just tightened the tape head alignment screw all the way up, then all the way down, estimated the middle, tightened it to that point, and praise the lord, saving now working fine!!

i'm using tape; it's so authentic so i'm pretty happy with it; it's real world experience..
and it works w/o problems

Yang, that sounds great! I think you were lucky though, normally random adjustment doesn't really cut it... I just uploaded an app that helps a great deal when adjusting the tape header. Check the files section..
Thanks Mike, I'll get the file.
After reading about this here and on other boards, I think I did get lucky with the alignment...
It would be great if someone knew the code (POKES ??) to make the tape loading noise audible through the auidio out or RF out of the C64. Then you could just put a commercial music cassette in and adjust the alignment screw as it plays. apparently you just turn the screw each way until the recording sounds its best....
So does anyone think this would work? does anyone know the code ?
Cheers

I dunno if there's just a simple poke, but afair turbo tape had the option for listening to the datasette playback by entering ←H (read: left-arrow H].

I recall listening to an audio tape through the datasette somewhere back in the 80s..
At the time the whole thing was kind of cool though I guess I was just amazed by the fact it was sampled sound no matter the quality..
We're talking 1-bit audio here and it's not very intelligible so I guess your head adjustments would hardly be noticable..
Or wait a little while and get the DC2N, a 100% tape emulator using SD-cards.
(Seem like life of a P64 owner consists mainly of waiting for more gear...)
