Relationship between Synth/Drummer/Bassline and Sequencer

Hi all

I've been playing with my new P64 for the first time this morning. I'm slowly getting the hang of Drummer, but the Bassline and Synthesizer are still a bit of a mystery to me (though I haven't read the manuals for those yet...). What I can't figure out is whether you are supposed to be able to compose a bassline, synth line or drum pattern in the relevant parts of the software, and then use these patterns in the sequencer? The only thing I can see in the manual is how to create a new pattern within the sequencer. If you can't import your bassline/synth/drum patterns, then how are you supposed to use those parts of the software as part of a song?

By syncing the commodore thru DINSYNC or (soon) MIDI...

Btw where did you read they are supposed to be used within sequencer?

you can use 2 c64's connected via sync24, one c64 is running bassline, synth or drummer and the other c64 the sequencer to control bassline etc...

I didn't read anywhere that bassline/drummer/synth are supposed to be used within the sequencer. It just assumed that the patterns created in the different parts of the software could all be played from within the sequencer. I think I'll record the output from the C64 in to my MacBook and chop them up in Recycle. Not as nifty as using the sequencer to combine drummer/bassline/synth patterns but the effect will be the same.

Re: Relationship between Synth/Drummer/Bassline and Sequencer

You didn't read because they are not meant to! Sorry. Personally this is completely not important as I will drive everything thru midi (soon).

I tried to sample sequences and put them into logic audio, but timing is an issue if you try to put other instrument in the grid (BPM not matching/unknown) And at that point, sampling single instruments and sequencing them into your host is the same and more practic...

Is there an easy way to get MIDI sync working? An easy to built interface would be great just so I can make P64 start playing when my sequencer (Reason on my Mac) starts playing. Pattern select would be great too if that's possible.

You'll find DIY solutions at the firestarter or colin fraser websites. You'll need a PIC programmer for both boxes, or at least someone doing the flashing for you...

Dunno about pattern select, did anyone already fiddle with pins H-M at the user port?

http://www.firestarter-music.de/prophet/

This provides sync between 2 C=64/P64 or a some old Roland gear.

Re: Relationship between Synth/Drummer/Bassline and Sequencer

Actually, sync for C=64->C=64 or Roland gear can be done with the easy to build s24-64II (->P64 getting started manual).

The PROPHET64-Midi-Interface is a Midi-Box add-on which makes it possible to syncronize your PROPHET64 software on your C64 via MIDI.
It works with every Midi-Clock-Master-Device like a sequencer or a drum-computer.

So it's a Midi->DIN sync converter and not just providing "sync between 2 C=64/P64 or a some old Roland gear"!

Re: Relationship between Synth/Drummer/Bassline and Sequencer

Thanks for the link. Looks like I'll have to try and build that interface to get midi sync working. Is pattern select something which is possible in the future? Not too much of a problem if it's not as I can programme pattern changes in P64. But it would be great to be able to programme pattern changes from within my sequencer on my Mac :-)

There's more. You'll be able to do everithing from your computer thru the forthcoming MIDI interface!
