I have an 8580-built SID2SID board I'm trying to get working in a C64c, and I've checked the continuity on every connection a dozen times now (on the board, to the motherboard, and the CS cable), and it will recognize/work with SID1... but once I insert SID2, the C64 won't even start up. Black screen. Take SID2 out and it's working again with just SID1.
Swapping the SIDs has no effect, and MSSIAH diagnostics pass for both SID chips and the C64 itself. I've tried the 2N2222A transistor (which works fine in my first build, with 6581's), and a 2N5089 which is in it now (this model is known to be compatible per folks on these forums). The MSSIAH cart is connected fine, since I get all apps to load and function normally when the second SID isn't installed.
Does anyone have a guess as to what the hell is going on?
Thanks,
Owen

In my hours and hours of endless/desperate troubleshooting efforts I've now managed to burn up a C64c system board, two 8580 R5's, and the MSSIAH cart (yes, I've discovered that this is indeed possible if you accidentally short just the right thing on the system board).
Since all of my stuff is destroyed, please disregard my question.

Aw, unlucky.
If it makes you feel any better at all, I've been through several C64s/SIDs. They are rather fragile. Now I have it how I want it, the Commie is staying shut.

Yeah, thanks. I'll be trying again though. I have another SID2SID machine that works, based on 6581's, so this was supposed to be my slick new 8580 upgrade. It's just a matter of time/money
The worst part is losing the MSSIAH cart itself though. I thought carts were pretty much indestructible... guess I underestimated myself, LOL.
