MIDI clock sync in bassline

Hi.
I am trying to get my bassline patterns to play with MIDI clock. but when I have midi sync on I can't get the pattern to start playing. How do I play my patterns programed in bassline in sync with my other gear? I don't want it to be MIDI notes, only the clock...

Please explain to me the proper settings to accomplish this...

Check your midi program. Make sure it sends out the midi clock signal.

Re: MIDI clock sync in bassline

It is korg hardware and it is ALWAYS sending clock....
more specifically I've tried my MicroKorg and my Kaoss pad 3

Check the sync menu (setup screen) so that it's not accidentally set for sync24 clock. Then all you really have to do is to hit play on your korg with the bassline switched to external sync mode.

Re: MIDI clock sync in bassline

Ok so, I figured out that it won't start without sending a MIDI "start" signal.....   kinda inconvenient on my part because with the KP3 to get to the start signal button will halt all audio playing. so that means I have to get the bassline going FIRST and then start my samples (which doesn't start at the same time as the "start" signal). THEN, sync it all to the bassline.. way too complicated to work.... but whatever. I got it sudo-working.

Re: MIDI clock sync in bassline

I've been having trouble (completely failing) at getting the bassline or anything else to sync via the midi clock.

Strange thing is though, the diagnostics show that it is receiving a regular clock pulse on the correct channel and it is also receiving note and velocity information... but apparently no start signal.?

So when you mentioned that you were using Korg hardware, I thought maybe it could be a Korg incompatibility issue as I was using a Korg ER1 with my tests.
I think i've debunked my own theory though as I've just tested it using a Roland MC303 and had the same result.

Tried using different midi leads, tried all 16 channels. tried all the different midi filter options with the korg also.
I will test it using an amiga tomorrow and a pc running propellerhead Reason if protracker doesn't work.
Any ideas?

Re: MIDI clock sync in bassline

Well now I'm feeling a little stupid but very happy.
I discovered my problem was activating the sync BUTTON on the user interface of the bassline.
The problem was, whenever I selected it to enable it, the pot that should have changed it's state on/off just did nothing at all, full rotation made no difference.  Maybe the jittery values were confusing it? So I tried to activate it using a joystick to control it. Still no joy... I was about to give up that line of investigation but then thought what if I try the 'L-Shift' enable option in the control settings... So i did, and low and behold... IT WORKS!!! smile
(Edit)
I should note that I had already been into the settings page of the Bassline and activated the midi clock sync before all of this. That's why it was such a puzzle that it wasn't working.

So to be clear, for midi sync to work, you need to go into the Bassline settings page and select 'midi clock' as your sync source.
Then check you have the correct/desired midi channel selected on the MIDI page.
Go back to the user interface and activate the sync button which is located just above the first 's' in the Bassline logo. (top right corner)

I know that might not help you with the kaos pad issue, but thought it was worth mentioning to save others the time and stress I've been through with it.

Let the acid flow! smile
