I got bored today (and a bit fed up that my USB capture device packed up!)
So, unable to play with my new C64 and MSSIAH, I decided to learn how to make, and then actually make, a MIDI device panel.
So, ta daaaah! (go easy on me, I'm not a designer, and I've never done anything like this before)
All the CC numbers are set along with min/max values. Just need to give it a test now! (also need to suss how to export it so I can share with you guys)
If it works, I'll do a drum device next

Ah right, cool! It's all happening for C64 music right now!
I've seen a few posts about various panels, but no actual downloads. So it's refreshing to see you've shared!
I'll share mine as soon as I figure out how

scroll down on my post, there's a link to my version. You might want to start from it to develop a better one!

ey looks pretty cool your vst!
I'm using Cubase SX2 so I'll be happy to try it if you share it!
Good job!

Well, it's not a VST, but it looks supersweet!!! i wish i had a graphics artist like you to help me out with the last 2 VSTs

Yeah I meant a midi device, but it loads as a vst no? I mean It's only a control surface without sound but it can be operated as a vst thing,no? with automation and all that? Or i'm I completely wrong? anyway I never used a Midi device from the midi device setup in cubase, I usually go for ableton when it comes to that, It's pretty straightforward in that matter.....But then again I always compose and record with cubase because it's just nicer to work with, and a bit of a habit.....Anyway looking forward testing this out!!!

It's not loaded as a VST, it's loaded as a MIDI device, in the MIDI device panel. The advantage is that you can dock the interface to Cubase gui, as you can see from my snapshots.
Offline
Thanx! How do you set it up then?Normally I create a midi track and use midi out (from soundcard or usb interface ) to connect mssiah, and painstakingly use all the cc messages to change parameters, I never tried using a midi device like this, but I shure would love to!
I'm sorry for the silly questions, I'm used to basic midi usage and mainly record audio and edit it till I drop....
Guess I have to dig up the manual to check the "midi device chapter"

very easy, you attach a midi device to a midi channel and use the know to send CC and record gestures.

UPDATE : I finally was able to test the MIDI panel - and it works 100% :-)
The only problem is I forgot to check the box which allows the adding of preset "snapshots". As far as I can tell there is no way to do this retrospectivly, so I've had to start again! (inputting all those midi controllers is a real ball ache too!)
The bonus to this is that I'm redoing the graphics, so it's going to look a bit better than before. I have found that adding all the controllers in, the interface it getting quite large now, but there is some space. I think I may do two versions, a compact one for people on 1024X768 screens, and a full version. This will have copies of the wave and filter tables for reference.
Should look cool!
In order to do this (as I have no screen). I've written down the key sequence to get into Mono Synth without a display.
For reference (mine as much as anyone elses)
Press any key
Wait 2 seconds
CRSR Up/Down x1
Return
Wait 12-15 seconds (or till audible noise change from output)
CRSR Left/Right X5
Hold C=
Tap CSRS Up/Down
Release C=
If I can learn all these inputs, and get the panels working, I won't need a screen at all! :-D

Well, 1hr 15 mins later, I've finished it. But now my MSSIAH doesn't seem to want to received any MIDI at all, even with the Midi KB plugged direct.
I guess the MIDI socket it bust.
Arse.
EDIT :
OK, well, this is what it looks like
Sadly, can't test...again. I guess it's time to search the forum and see if this has happened before

Now I've got my MSSIAH working again, I can confirm that the Midi Panel seems to be working fine.
I've writted about it on my blog, including mention of a small problem with loading presets, I don't know if anyone can help? In a nutshell - I think Cubase is sending the controller information too fast for MSSIAH to process in time, resulting in some "hybrid" sounds when switching presets (if you click 2 or 3 times, eventually all the controller info is sent). So if anyone knows how to slow it down, please let me know!
Take a look at my blog for the link http://www.rebornonline.com/blog/. The more observant of you may notice that I've adjusted the graphic slightly to make it even more rounded. Breadbin to the max
As I put on the blog post, I'm happy for people to use this as a starting block for their own panels, you will be very happy to see that I've preloaded it with ALL of the controllers (even the ones I haven't used), so everything is there for you.
All I ask is that you give me some credit for my hard work, either by putting www.rebornonline.com somewhere in your graphic, or by linking to me from your website download page.
Alternativly, if you have some changes or customisations you'd like to be made to my panel, then let me know, if they're good ideas then I might just do them and post a custom version up for you.

dAMN! Can't seem to get it to work in Cubase SX2 , is it only SX3 supported?
I can import it in the device manager, but can't open it to tweak?
Anyway massive thanx for putting it up for free!
Offline
I made it in SX3, so it may not work in older versions. Sorry
I'll see if I can get hold of SX2 and port it over
Offline
Due to the preset annoyance, I've removed the preset option.
You can download this altered version from the blog

Enjoy!

Really great !
Thank you !
Focus on compatibility:
I have load it on SX3, no problem. Is that mean it's compatible with newer version of Cubase ?
I also use SX2 on a another computer... A chance for a portage ? Is it hard / long work to do ?
Offline
I only have SX3 at the moment, so I've not been able to test it on any other system, sorry
I would hope that newer versions would be able to load an older file, but as for rolling back to SX2? I doubt it. But feel free to give it a go !

works like a charm in cubase 4.5, well done mate. amazing gui too. thanks for that!

Thanks for the compliments Luke. I'm glad you like it

Just had a chance to use it and it works Flawlessly in CuBase SX3.
Great work!

Thanks Chris! Glad you like it :-D
I've been looking into getting SynthMaker so I can make a version which works better with presets (i.e. using a midi CC delay) , but having had a play with the trial version, it really looks a bit beyond my skills. What I really need is a demo template from Synthedit, just any old midi controller surface, then I can edit it how I please (in theory).

Keep up the great work.
I get my Cubase 5 on Wednesday. I will test it and let you know how it works.
Thanks again.
Offline
That would be good to know Chris, keep us posted
I haven't made the move away from SX3 as I would loose the use of all my DX Plugins
Offline
What's those magic dx plugs that you can't replace with vst's? I would love to have Focusrite d2/d3 in Cubase but they only make tdm's .
When I moved to C4 (4.5 with sidechain and unlimited routing) from SX3 it was like whole new dimension to me, C5 is not such a milestone compare to C4, however it is nice upgrade.
